with LifeServe Blood Center. LifeServe Blood Center is calling all community members to
participate in blood donation drives this spring, in your neighborhood. Each donation
bolsters the blood supply for local hospitals, and LifeServe aims to emphasize the crucial
role that each donor plays in supporting healthcare services within their own

LOCAL BLOOD DONORS NEEDED GIVE ONE MORE IN ‘24
As we wrap up the first month of the new
year, LifeServe Blood Center is urging community members to roll up a sleeve and give
blood donation a try.
Donor retention is a big struggle we face at LifeServe. Many of our donors only donate
1-2 times per year, but if they all committed to giving one more blood donation this
year, our blood supply would be in a much more stable state.
ISU stem-cell research could enable new treatment for those with blood diseases
BY: BROOKLYN DRAISEY Findings from a group of Iowa State University researchers could lead to the ability to create new blood stem cells from a patient’s own blood, possibly doing away with the need for bone marrow transplants.ISU assistant professor of genetics, development and cell biology Raquel Espin Palazon and her team discovered that a microbial sensor that aids in finding bacterial infections, known as Nod1, also plays a key role in the creation of blood stem cells.
